Lee: Daegu’s conservative approach vital in first leg Korean FA Cup win against Jeonnam

Seoul: Head coach Lee Byung-geun revealed his defensive approach against Jeonnam Dragons was the key reason for Daegu FC’s 1-0 victory in the first leg of the Korean FA Cup Final on Wednesday.

Daegu, who won their first and only FA Cup title in 2018, clinched the first leg win through a 26th minute Bruno Lamas penalty at Gwangyang Football Stadium.

The second leg will be played at the Forest Arena on December 11 with the winners to book a place in the 2022 AFC Champions League.

Riyadh: Pohang Steelers head coach Kim Gi-dong admitted his side lost their focus after conceding inside the first 16 seconds of the 2021 AFC Champions League final against Al Hilal, ultimately going on to lose 2-0.

The Koreans returned to the final for the first time since winning the title in 2009 and were up against the only other side in the continent that could boast matching their three AFC Champions League titles.

Riyadh: Al Hilal SFC head coach Leonardo Jardim hailed his side as deserving champions after defeating Korea Republic’s Pohang Steelers 2-0 in the final to win the 2021 AFC Champions League on Tuesday.

The Saudi powerhouse made it four titles in the competition and two in the last three years, also pipping their opponents to the title of the most successful club in the AFC Champions League history, having been joint holders of the record with Pohang Steelers.

Having joined Al Hilal in the summer, Jardim remains unbeaten across all competition and the 47-year-old capped off a scintillating AFC Champions League knockout stage journey by becoming the first Portuguese manager to win the title.
